how to clean felt products

Remove dust first

Use a soft brush (like a small clothes brush) to gently brush off loose dust from the felt. Don’t rub hard—this can damage the fabric.

Hand wash (best for felt)

Use cold water and a little mild soap (such as baby shampoo or gentle laundry soap).

Gently press the felt in the soapy water. Do not scrub or twist it—this will make the felt lose its shape.

Rinse with cold water until there’s no soap left.

Machine wash (only if necessary)

Put the felt in a mesh laundry bag to protect it.

Use the “gentle” or “delicate” cycle on your washing machine.

Use cold water and mild soap. Never use bleach.

Dry the felt correctly

Do not wring the felt (it will stretch!). Instead, lay it on a clean towel. Roll the towel with the felt inside to soak up extra water.

Unroll the towel and lay the felt flat on a dry towel or drying rack. Let it air dry.

Do not put felt in the sun (it may fade) or the dryer (it will shrink).

Extra tips

Always check the care label on your felt first—some types have special rules.

Do not dry clean felt unless the label says it’s okay.

Do not iron felt (most felt will melt or lose its texture).
